**Tips for Accurately Checking Your Blood Pressure**
Brevard County Libraries has shared important guidelines on how to properly measure your blood pressure, ensuring you get accurate readings. Following these steps can help you better understand and manage your heart health. Here's what you need to know:
### Before Measuring Your Blood Pressure:
- Refrain from exercising, consuming caffeine, or smoking for 30 minutes beforehand.
- Empty your bladder.
- Make sure your arm is uncovered for the blood pressure cuff.
- Sit quietly and relax for at least five minutes before taking the measurement.
### During the Measurement:
- Keep your feet flat on the floor.
- Avoid talking during the process.
- Rest your arm on a flat surface, such as a table, making sure it is supported and at heart-level.
The guidelines were provided as part of an initiative during Heart Health Month, aimed at helping individuals take proactive steps toward maintaining a healthy heart. Resources, including Self-Monitoring Blood Pressure kits, are available for checkout through the Library of Things at Brevard County Libraries.
