Brevard Public Schools Honors John Wayne Tuttle's Legacy
Honoring the Legacy of Principal John Wayne Tuttle
Brevard Public Schools honors John Wayne Tuttle, a longtime educator, coach, administrator and community leader whose dedication to students and schools spanned more than 40 years.
Tuttle began his career at Palm Bay High School, where he served as a teacher and coach. He led the Palm Bay baseball team to the 1985 state championship. He later became the school’s assistant principal in charge of discipline, where he was known for his fairness and care for students.
His leadership across the district included roles as dean at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High; assistant principal at Palm Bay High School; principal at MILA Elementary School; principal at Southwest Middle School; principal at Bayside High School; and founding principal of Heritage High School, where he helped design and open the school and graduated its first senior class.
Tuttle also served as a basketball referee, officiating several Florida State Tournament championship games, a role that reflected his lifelong love of sports and commitment to excellence.
After four decades of service, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of leadership, mentorship and unwavering dedication to education. His impact is still felt in the schools he led, the programs he built and the lives he touched.
A celebration of life for John Wayne Tuttle will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at the Melbourne Church of Christ, 810 Hollywood Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Melbourne Church of Christ.
