A tropical depression named Fourteen has formed in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, according to the latest advisory issued at 11 AM EDT on October 5, 2024. Forecasts indicate that the depression is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches Florida early next week.

The advisory warns of locally heavy rainfall and a risk of flooding from Sunday through the middle of next week. Additionally, there is a potential for strong winds and severe weather starting Wednesday.

Residents and visitors in Florida are advised to prepare their hurricane kits and plans in advance of the storm. For more information and updates, individuals can visit weather.gov/melbourne.
