**Melbourne Police Arrest Suspect with Firearm Following Foot Pursuit**

The Melbourne Police Department conducted an operation aimed at preventing violence in high-risk areas, leading to the arrest of a suspect on Wednesday. Officers attempted to stop Caleb Walker on Lipscomb Street, but he fled on foot while brandishing a Kalashnikov-style pistol.

Detectives Bryce Poppel and Timothy Clifford, along with multiple supporting units, pursued Walker and subsequently apprehended him after a brief chase. The weapon, which was loaded with a high-capacity magazine, was found on a nearby rooftop, where Walker had attempted to discard it before his arrest.

Walker faces several charges, including Violation of Probation, Resisting Officers, Tampering with Evidence, Unlawful Open Carry of a Firearm, and Commission of Crime with a Firearm. The case number is MPD 2024-00147882.
